Silent Prayer – Ode to Creation

From  Sacred Seasons by Beverly Lanzetta

In the dappled dawn / When creation breathes a still note / We find you, Majesty

We are your witness / We are your voice in the wilderness /

Our feet tread lightly your mother ground

You made us like unto you / bodhicitta, holy spirit, atman, ruah /

We are your body born in matter / Gazing upon your own creation in us.

*Introit                 When Charity and Love Prevail   v. 1&2                New Century Hymnal #396

Where charity and love prevail, there God is ever found;Brought here together by Christ’s love, by love are we thus bound.

With grateful joy and holy fear true charity we learn;Let us with heart and mind and strength now love Christ in return.

*Call to Worship

Brought here together by a great love,

let us engage in love’s practices.

Let us do justice in our worship,

holding in prayer a world in torment.

Let us show kindness to one another,

reaching out to others beyond our ken.

Let us walk humbly in step with our God,

treating the earth with respect and tenderness.

Brought here together by a great love,

let us embody compassion and joy!

*Passing of the Peace (ASL) and Lighting of Peace & Justice Candle

*Hymn                 O God of Love, O God of Peace                          New Century Hymnal #571

O God of love, O God of peace, make wars throughout the world to cease; The wrath of human wrong restrain: Give peace, O God, give peace again!

Remember, God, your works of old, the wonders that your people told;Heal every malice, harm, and pain: Give peace, O God, give peace again!

Whom shall we trust, O God, but you? For you are constant, strong, and true.None ever called on you in vain: Give peace, O God, give peace again.

*Invocation (in unison)

Shower us with love in this time together, Holy One.

Bathe us in compassion.  Infuse us with patience and peace.

Fill us with the certainty of knowing that we are one in you.

In other words, drench us with your spirit that we may

speak your words and engage in your healing action this

day, in the way of Jesus Christ.  Amen.

*Hymn                 Spirit of Love                                                           New Century Hymnal #58

Spirit of love, you move within creation,

drawing the threads to color and design:

Life into life, you knit our true salvation,

come, work with us, and weave us into one.

Though we have frayed the fabric of your making,

Tearing away from all that you intend,

Yet, to be whole, humanity is aching—

come, work with us, and weave us into one.

Great loom of God, where history is woven,

you are the frame that holds us to the truth,

Christ is the theme, the pattern you have given—

come, work with us, and weave us into one.

Prayers of the People – Sharing Joys & Concerns

Our Father (Creator, Mother) who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us

our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but

deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

Lead me Lord, lead me in thy righteousness, make thy way plain before my face.

For it is thou Lord, thou Lord, only, that makest me dwell in safety.

Praise God for all that love has done; Creator, Christ, and Spirit, One. Amen

*Prayer of Dedication (spoken in unison)

Bless these gifts of our hearts, Holy One, and multiply them into blessings for the world beginning here among us.  All we have is meant to share as all has been gifted by you.  And there is such joy in the sharing!  Amen.

*Hymn                  Sent Forth by God’s Blessing                                New Century Hymnal #76

Sent forth by God's blessing, our true faith confessing,

the people of God from this dwelling take leave.

The service is ended, O now be extended

the fruits of our worship in all who believe.

The seed of the teaching, receptive hearts reaching,

shall blossom in action for God and for all.

God's grace did invite us, and love shall unite us

to work for God's realm and to answer the call.

With praise and thanksgiving to God ever living,

the tasks of our everyday life we will face.

Our faith ever sharing, in love ever caring,

embracing God children of each tribe and race.

With your grace you feed us, with you light now lead us,

unite us as one in this life that we share.

Then may all the living with praise and thanksgiving

give honor to Christ and that name which we bear.
