Silent Prayer

Beloved, we long to be devoted, committed, and steadfast in our work towards collective liberation. We also long to rest, play, and care tenderly for our bodies and spirits. Teach us how these two desires dance with each other. Bless us with the wisdom of our elders who have gone before us, creating freedom within and without. Thank you for the moon and the tides who show us how to ebb and flow, expand and retreat. Amen

Announcements

Prelude Cold December Flies Away Trad. Catalonian/ Giamanco

Welcome

Introit Go, Tell It on the Mountain (vs. 1) R. #160 While shepherds kept their watching o'er silent flocks by night,

behold throughout the heavens there shone a Holy light.

Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;

go, tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born!

*Call to Worship

One: Cosmic Love—

All: Under shimmering stars, we ponder Your vastness.

One: In the glow of the moon, we marvel at our shared living.

All: Down To Earth God—

One: Your wisdom is ancient and ever unfolding.

All: Like a kind auntie,

One: Your invitation to liberation is as gentle.

All: Like voices shouting for justice,

One: Your call toward liberation is demanding.

All: Spirit of Christ Alive in Us—

One: Make vivid the path of compassion.

All: Shake open doors towards radical transformation.

One: Sooth us with your Flung Wide Love.

*Hymn Like a Tree Beside the Waters R. #244

Like a tree beside the waters, nurtured by your loving care,

we, O God, your sons and daughters, your enduring witness bear.

In each passing generation may your voice of love be heard.

Bless, we pray, this congregation with your holy, living Word.

Like a tree beside the river, drawing life from holy streams,

fill us with your love forever; recreate our hopes and dreams.

Through the storms of life sustain us by the wisdom of your grace.

May the changing of the seasons find us in your warm embrace.

We, beside the living waters, drink from your eternal life.

Give to all, your sons and daughters, faith that rises over strife.

Ever-living God, most glorious, strengthen us for life today.

By the hope of timeless promise guide your church upon the Way.

*Invocation (spoken in unison)

Come, Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove: Open our ears to the truth of your word, that the testimony of Christ may be strengthened among us and the glad news of deliverance revealed. Amen

Message

Hymn Somebody’s Knockin’ at Your Door R. #305 Refrain:

Somebody's knockin’ at your door; somebody's knockin’ at your door;

O sinner, why don't you answer? Somebody's knockin’ at your door.

Knocks like Jesus, Somebody's knockin’ at your door.

Knocks like Jesus, Somebody's knockin’ at your door.

Refrain:

Can't you hear Him? Somebody's knockin’ at your door.

Can't you hear Him? Somebody's knockin’ at your door.

Refrain:

Jesus calls you, Somebody's knockin’ at your door

Jesus calls you, Somebody's knockin’ at your door.

Refrain:

Call to Confession Let us confess our sins to God, for the Holy One is steadfast in love and always ready to forgive.

Prayer of Confession (spoken in unison) Mothering God, we have chased after foolish things, and spent our strength on vanity; our labor has been in vain. Deliver us from arrogance and forgive our self-concern, that we may find our reward with you, as servants of your dream. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness Beloved, you are forgiven in Christ, the Lamb who bears our sin. Happy are those who put their trust in God, and delight to do God’s will, for God makes our footing sure upon the rock of Christ.

Prayers of the People – Sharing Joys & Concerns

Lead me Lord, lead me in thy righteousness, make thy way plain before my face.

For it is thou Lord, thou Lord, only, that makest me dwell in safety.

Invitation to Offering – We gather our offerings today to create the world of which we dream.

Offertory O Thou That Tellest G.F.Handel/ Lani Smith

*The Doxology

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below;

Praise God for all that love has done; Creator, Christ, and Spirit, One. Amen

*Prayer of Dedication (spoken in unison)

God of Revelations, may this offering be used to fill in the gaps of what we can not yet imagine. May we become conscious of possibility in our communities. May we envision expansive ways of being together infused with freedom and pleasure. Amen

*Hymn O for a World R. #500

O for a world where everyone respects each other’s ways,

Where love is lived and all is done with justice and with praise.

O for a world where goods are shared and misery relieved,

Where truth is spoken, children spared, and equality achieved.

We welcome one world family and struggle with each choice

That opens us to unity and gives our vision voice.

The poor are rich, the weak are strong, the foolish ones are wise.

Tell all who mourn: outcasts belong, who perishes will rise.

O for a world preparing for God’s glorious reign of peace,

Where time and tears will be no more, and all but love will cease.

*Blessing

*Sung Benediction Lord, Dismiss Us with Your Blessing (v. 1) R. #333

Lord, dismiss us with your blessing; fill our hearts with joy and peace;

let us each, your love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace:

oh, refresh us, oh, refresh us, traveling through this wilderness.
